Lightning strikes mobile home during Rapid City storm

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KBHB) — A thunderstorm with pea and marble-size hail hit Rapid City around 4 p.m. or so Sunday, and a lightning strike set fire to a double-wide mobile home.

Eight local stations responded to the call to the 3900 block of Elkhorn Lane near Country Village Estates mobile home park. They confined the fire to the mobile home itself, preventing the spread to nearby homes and outbuildings. Officials say the owner was able to get out of the home, and fire crews rescued two cats as well.

One firefighter reported minor injuries. There was heavy smoke damage to the home itself, and fire damage to the bathroom.
