Linda Lou Bury was born on March 23, 1945, in Webster, South Dakota, to Willis and Lydia (Herr) Bury.
Linda graduated from Bristol High School in 1963. Soon after, she married Rodney Schmig on February 22, 1964. Together, they lived in Pierpont, South Dakota, from 1964 until 2005, and then moved to Groton, South Dakota, where Linda remained until her passing.
Linda spent nearly 20 years as a daycare provider. She and Rodney cared deeply for all the children who spent time with them over the years, and this work was an important part of their lives. Linda also had a passion for gardening. Just days before her death, she was out flower shopping, enjoying one of her favorite activities.
Linda was a 20-year cancer survivor. Though she lost her voice because of the illness, she continued to communicate using pen and paper as well as through social media. Technology helped her maintain her independence, and she remained connected with those around her.
Linda is survived by her daughters, Deb (Terry) Hardy of Bath, SD. Sandy (Darrin) Tate of Tea, SD; granddaughters, Mikayla (Craig) Lunde of Pierre, SD; Shannyn (Tucker) Pickett of Casper, WY; Madison (Paul) Wigg of Sioux Falls, SD, and Ashley (Zack) Dobbins of Omaha, NE. Great-grandsons Beckett Dobbins and Myles Wigg; her sister, Betty Kelzer of Bath, SD; brother-in-law Roger (Mary) Schmig of Webster, SD; many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Linda was preceded in death by her husband, Rodney, in 2004; her parents; her brothers, Richard and James; her sisters-in-law, Peggy, Rosalie, and Rosie; and her brothers-in-law, Don, Arnold, and Larry.
