TABOR, S.D.(WNAX)- Little to no activity is expected on the Napa to Platte rail line, especially west of Tabor. The line is an old branch of the Milwaukee Road and is owned by the state.
Jack Dokken, Air, Rail and Transit Program Manager for the South Dakota Department of Transportation, says there isn’t much interest in that line.
Short line operator WATCO bought the MRC line from Mitchell to Presho and has greatly increased carloads on that section.
Dokken says he hasn’t heard if WATCO would want to buy the Napa to Platte line.
The Napa to Platte line was abandoned in the 1980s and purchased by the state as part of the effort to save rail service.
