SIOUX FALLS, S.D.(KELO)- Members of the Freedom Caucus in the South Dakota legislature aren’t bending…they say “no” to a new men’s penitentiary in Sioux Falls.
Legislators will meet in a special session in two weeks to decide whether to approve the 650-million dollar facility.
Lieutenant Governor Tony Venhuizen chaired the prison task force that unanimously endorsed the plan.
He sounds confident going into the special session.
Some Freedom Caucus members say they’re concerned the price tag will grow – possibly up to a billion dollars.
Governor Rhoden’s office says the price is capped at 650-million dollars.
