WASHINGTON, D.C.(WNAX)- Republican Members of the US House met Tuesday to elect their leadership for next years session.

While California Representative Kevin McCarthy was elected as leader, South Dakota Congressman Dusty Johnson says the important vote comes in January.

McCarthy was challenged by Arizona Representative Andy Biggs.

Johnson says any challenger has to make a case to be leader.

Johnson wouldn’t say who he was going to vote for in the leadership election.

It appears republicans will have a narrow majority in the next Congress that starts in January.
