RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – A stolen vehicle report was just the beginning of Rapid City police investigation involving multiple incidents of shots being fired, a foot and a car chase, with new details being made public today.
The final arrest was made on Tuesday, following the vehicle chase, but the Chrysler 300 was first reported stolen Dec. 12. Brendyn Medina, community relations specialist for the Rapid City Police Department, said tracking the vehicle was a multi-day effort.
The foot chase took officers through a hotel lobby, and back down to the fuel pump, when the suspect got in the car, speeding away before police could intervene again on North Street.
At one point, gunshots were fired from a service pistol into the engine block and at the tires of the fleeing vehicle in an attempt to disable it.
The driver was arrested, and identified as 22-year-old (Mon-Tear-ee-on)Monterion Winfrey of Rapid City.
