Man severely burned in grass fire dies from injuries

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – The man who was hurt after a fire got out control in Minnehaha County has died from his injuries.

Seventy-four-year-old Michael Schuldt died Sunday, according to Capt. Josh Phillips with the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities say the incident took place Sunday afternoon outside a residence on Sand Street near Ellis Road on the western edge of Sioux Falls. A controlled burn at a fire pit got out of control, Phillips said, and Schuldt called 911.

Schuldt was seriously burned attempting to stop the fire. Emergency responders took him to a Sioux Falls hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
