Martin man arrested in shooting outside of Rapid City

PENNINGTON COUNTY, S.D. (KBHB) – A Martin man has been arrested for shooting another man late Wednesday, July 15 near Farmingdale. 28-year-old Joseph Francis Marshall from Martin, South Dakota was arrested on two counts of Aggravated Assault, DUI-second offense, Possession of a Firearm with a previous felony drug conviction and two out-of-county warrants (Resisting Officer and Simple Assault, both out of Bennett County).

Pennington County Deputies responded to a report of a gunshot wound at 11:02 p.m., Wednesday near Farmingdale east of Rapid City, near mile marker 65 on South Dakota Highway 44. After they arrived, a team from the Criminal Investigations Unit was called to assist.

A group of three men was travelling from Martin to Rapid City when they ran out of gas. The shooting happened after an argument. The victim, a 40-year-old male from Martin was shot in the chest and taken by air ambulance to Monument Health in Rapid City. He sustained serious life-threatening injuries.

The investigation continues with the assistance of the Rapid City Police Department.
