May is Mental Health Awareness Month

ABERDEEN, S.D. (HubCityRadio.com) – May is Mental Health Awareness Month and paying attention to your mental health is especially important during the stressful times of the coronavirus pandemic.

Northeastern Mental Health and National Alliance of Mental Illness (NAMI) are promoting awareness of mental health issues and providing help for those in need.

Amy Sanderson, Clinical Director at Northeastern Mental Health, talked about signs to look for when it comes to mental health issues.

Cindy Kirschman, NAMI Team Leader, says there are things people can do to help their mental health like getting outside and going for walks or reaching out to a friend on the phone.

NAMI also provides opportunities for people looking for help.

While there is often a stigma attached to mental health, Kirschman said that stigma can be dropped.

To reach out for help you can contact Northeastern Mental Health at (605) 225-1010 or at www.nemhc.org and visit https://namisouthdakota.org/

Sanderson encourages anybody who is struggling to reach out for help.
