Mayor Schaunaman’s response to Banner Engineering closing their plant in Aberdeen

ABERDEEN, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- Banner Engineering announced Thursday that will be closing down their plant and laying off their employees beginning in April.  The plant is expected to be shut down by the end of the year.

Here is the letter that was given to employees as the company’s afternoon meetings were dismissed.

Mayor Travis Schaunaman informed the public on when he learned about what happened at Banner.

Back in 2015, Wyndham closed their center here in Aberdeen and moved it to Indianapolis, IN.  Banner are allowing employees who wants to stay in the industry to apply at their location in Brooklyn Park, MN.  Mayor Schaunaman compared the two situations.

Mayor Schaunaman held an emergency meeting Friday morning with the Department of Labor’s office.

The mayor sent a message for all employers in Aberdeen who are looking for help within their industry.

Layoffs are expected to begin late in April.
