STURGIS, S.D.(KBHB) – At the Rally Saturday, the annual Mayor’s Ride left Sturgis en route to a day’s worth of activities around the Black Hills.
The ride this year stops at Mount Rushmore Monument for a break and photo with the memorial in the background and concludes at the State Game Lodge in Custer State Park with lunch and a presentation with Mayor Carstensen.
At the front of the pack as they left town were an escort from Sturgis Police, Mayor Carstensen and this year’s Grand Marshall, Rusty Wallace.
Wallace says serving as Grand Marshal for the world’s biggest motorcycle rally has been ‘unreal.’
Wallace rode a motorcycle from his shop, Southern Country Customs, in the ride Saturday. He says 30 friends and employees from the custom shop accompanied him to Sturgis this year.
This is the 20th annual Mayor’s Ride, which raises funds for local emergency services. Mayor Carstensen says what the ride brings back to the community is important.
Jack Daniels was on board as a major sponsor this year, and a Jack Daniels semi-truck was part of the ride out through Sturgis.
