McLaughlin woman identified in fatal crash

McLAUGHLIN, S.D. (Press Relese) – A McLaughlin, S.D. woman has been identified as the person who died Thursday morning in a one-vehicle crash south of McLaughlin.

A 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche was southbound on South Dakota Highway 63 when the driver, 35-year-old Lana Van Nortrick, lost control of the vehicle due to icy road conditions. The vehicle went into the west ditch and rolled.

The driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene. She was the only person involved in the crash.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash. All information is only preliminary at this point.

The Highway Patrol is part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
