Medical marijuana may get address on Veto Day

PIERRE, S.D.(WNAX)- South Dakota legislators return to Pierre Monday for the final day of the 2021 session. While medical marijuana is not on the agenda, there may be some discussion.

House Majority Leader Kent Peterson of Salem says there are concerns about the lack of structure around the program which will start July first.

Peterson says it may be difficult to suspend the rules to bring it up.

Peterson says fixing medical marijuana rules may have to wait.

Voters approved “IM26” last November which legalized medical marijuana. Legislators failed to reach agreement on a bill that would have delayed implementation until January first.
