Michael Siegler, 61

Michael John “Ziggy” Siegler, 61, formerly of Aberdeen, SD and now Groton, SD, passed away Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Avera St. Lukes Hospital.  Mike fought a courageous battle for 5 months with cancer.

A Funeral Service will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Schriver’s Memorial Chapel with Pastor Jonathan Molan officiating.

Burial will follow the service at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.  A time of fellowship and a luncheon will follow the burial at Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary and Crematory.

Visitation will be from 5 pm to 7 pm, with a prayer service at 7 pm Friday at the mortuary. Visitation will continue one hour before the services.

The family requests that those attending services wear Minnesota Vikings attire or the color purple.

Micheal John Siegler was born May 13, 1963, to Johnny and Wanethe (Lieske) Siegler in Aberdeen, SD, at St. Luke’s Hospital. He attended school in Aberdeen and graduated from Aberdeen Central High School in 1981. Michael worked at Aberdeen Machine Tool for many years.

Michael was known for his outgoing personality and for his humor. He was a hard worker and a good friend to many. One of his favorite sayings was, “This isn’t my first rodeo.”

Michael enjoyed golfing, bowling, fishing, and ice fishing. Michael frequently refereed basketball games in Groton. Some of his favorite teams included the Minnesota Vikings, North Carolina Tar Heels, Miami Hurricanes, and NDSU Bison. Mike enjoyed cooking and grilling for his family and friends. Many of his fishing trips were with his good friend, Larry Papke. Mike enjoyed spending time with all of his grandchildren. Even when fighting cancer, they brought smiles to his face.  He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

Grateful for having shared Michael’s life are his mother, Wanethe Siegler of Aberdeen; daughter, Brittany (Gary) Everett of Aberdeen; sister, Corliss (Fred) Klungseth of Bellevue, NE; fiancé, Karen Spanier of Groton; grandchildren: Amari and Skye Everett; nieces include Stacy (Tim) Williams of Omaha, NE and Jenny Hiracheta of Bellevue, NE; great-nieces include Hannah Hiracheta, Alexis Williams; and great-nephews Colton Hiracheta, Tyler Williams, Thomas Williams, and Andrew Williams. Special family members include Karen’s children, Brandon (Melissa) Spanier of Faulkton, SD and Raelyn (Cole) Buscho of Kindred, ND and Karen’s grandchildren Layne, Huntleigh, and Canaan Buscho and Kamden, Gibson, and Harrison Spanier; and special friends Roger, Darcy, and Brooklyn Spanier of Groton.

Michael was preceded in death by his father, Johnny Siegler, and brother–in–law Freddie Klungseth.

Michael’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the doctors and nurses who assisted with his care over the past three weeks at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital. A special thanks to Kathy Gubin for Palliative Care, who guided the family through many tough decisions. A special thank you to Aberdeen Machine Tool staff and employees for their support during these difficult times.
