Mildred Rogers, 89

Mildred “Millie” Rogers, 89, of Miller, passed away Thursday, August 13, 2026, at the Good Samaritan Society in Miller.

Celebration of Millie’s Life will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 22, 2026, at the Community Church of St. Lawrence, with Pastor Jason Watson officiating. Burial will be at the Morningside Cemetery in Ree Heights.  There will be a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Friday, August 21, 2026, at the church.

Mildred “Millie” Rae Johnson was born July 19, 1937, on a farm in Hand County to Fred and Gertie (Pawlovich) Johnson. Her family lived on various farms in Hand County, two years in Buffalo County, and in Miller while she was growing up. She attended grade school at various country schools in Hand County and graduated from Miller High School in 1955. After graduation, she worked at the First National Bank in Miller for three years.

Millie married Orval Rogers on December 29, 1957, at the First Presbyterian Church in Miller. After their marriage, they moved to a farm south of Ree Heights. In September of 2009, the couple moved to Miller.

Millie was a member of the Cedar Extension Club for nearly 50 years. She held offices in her local club, as well as County Secretary and President, District Area Director, State Project Leader, and 2nd Vice President of SDEH.  She was the coordinator of the Ree Heights Food Club for 20 years. She was also a member of the South Dakota CowBelles for a few years. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, and cards, but spending time with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren was her favorite pastime.

Millie is survived by her husband of 68 years, Orval; her three sons: Monty (Dee), Rodney (Kenette), and Jeffrey; six grandchildren: Matt (Nikki) Rogers, Heather Poindexter, Dylan (Karren) Rogers, Erin (Zach) Sybesma, Samantha (Keeven) Long, and Jaclynn Rogers; six great-grandchildren: Madelynn, TJ, Rylee, & Reese Rogers, Sienna Long, and Micah Sybesma; three step-grandchildren, nine step-great-grandchildren; two sisters: Debbie (Bob) Sherman, White Lake, MI and Jerri (David) Barnes, Hickory Creek, TX; and one sister-in-law: Joyce Poindexter, Ree Heights.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Gertie Johnson; parents-in-law, Ray and Gladys Rogers; sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Kenny Darnell; sister-in-law and brothers-in-law, Betty and Ted Haetten, and Joe Poindexter.

Reck Funeral Home of Miller has been entrusted with Millie’s arrangements.
