Missouri River levels finally dropping

YANKTON, S.D. (WNAX) – River levels on the Missouri River are finally dropping after months of near flood levels in many reaches.

Tom Curran is the Operations Manager for the Corps of Engineers at Gavins Point Dam.

Curran says one generator will be shut down this winter which means the spillway will be active all winter.

Curran says they will be watching the spillway gates carefully.

Governor Kristi Noem and the states Congressional delegation has asked the Corps to run Gavins Point releases above the normal winter flow to help draw down upstream reservoirs to open up more flood storage space.
