Mitchell man dies from injuries sustained in crash near Ethan

ETHAN, S.D. – A Mitchell, S.D., man has died from injuries sustained in a one-vehicle crash that occurred Wednesday, Oct. 7, near Ethan.

A 2009 Honda Civic was southbound on South Dakota Highway 37 when the vehicle went off the roadway into the west ditch. The vehicle eventually hit a power pole.

Matthew Hopkins, who was the 36-year-old driver, was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the vehicle. He suffered life threatening injuries. He died Tuesday, Oct. 20, in a Sioux Falls hospital.

South Dakota Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash. All information is only preliminary at this time.
