Mitchell Mayor provide update on Lake Mitchell

MITCHELL, S.D.(KELO)- A voter-approved plan to clean up Lake Mitchell is on hold…and Mitchell’s Mayor says he’s frustrated.

The lake was to be drained this fall after voters approved a 25-million dollar bond issue to dredge it.

Mayor Jordan Hanson says in a Facebook post the city was just informed that will have to wait.

That study will test the integrity of the dam, to make sure it’s strong enough to handle the overall plan.

There’s no timeline yet on when the study can be done.

The project is intended to resolve water quality issues in the lake that have existed since the 1980’s.
