Mitchell School Board requires masks for schools beginning on Wednesday

MITCHELL, S.D.(KMIT)- Those were the sounds at the conclusion of Monday’s emotional Mitchell School Board meeting after the board reinstated a mask mandate for the Mitchell School District.  The mandate will begin Wednesday and will be revisited on November 8th.  Masks will be required in all school district buildings from 7 AM until 4:30 PM and will be required on all school buses when children are present.  The meeting was moved from the MCTEA building to the Performing Arts Center due to the attendance of several hundred people.  The issue was discussed for an hour.  District 20 State Senator Josh Klumb pleaded to those on both sides of the issue.

Board member Shawn Ruml explained why he voted for the mandate.

The vote was 5-0 in favor of the mask mandate.
