MITCHELL, S.D.(KMIT)- Mitchell voters will decide on whether new athletic facilities will be included in the new Mitchell Senior High School. The Mitchell School Board on Monday approved a resolution to put a 17 million dollar bond issue to a public vote during the already scheduled city council/school board election on June 6th. Mitchell School District Business Manager Steve Culhane.
The Mitchell School Board earlier this year approved a base bid of just over 45 million dollars for a new high school to be located across the street from the current high school. The base bid left out athletic facility upgrades, which were in the original plan but were scrapped after costs for the new school came in higher than expected. The athletic facilities at the current high school would continue to be used if the bond issue does not pass. The bond would cost taxpayers around 44 dollars per 100,000 dollars assessed valuation. 60 percent approval is needed for the bond issue to pass.
