YANKTON, S.D.(WNAX)- The Yankton School Board heard from several parents at their meeting this week asking for an end to the mandatory face mask policy. The board was also presented with a petition that backers said had over seven hundred signatures.

Board President Jill Sternquist says they have regular updates on the Covid-19 situation.

Sternquist says they do listen to the public input.

Sternquist, who is a doctor, says they have to follow the science.

The board policy would remove the face mask requirement when Covid-19 infections in the county drop to the low category. The county is still in the widespread infection status.
