Murder charges filed against a Pierre man

PIERRE, S.D.(KCCR)- Charges have been filed against a Pierre man in connection to a death at Pierre apartment last week.

In a joint release between the South Dakota Attorney General’s Office, Hughes County States Attorney and Pierre Police Department, 23 year-old David Shangreaux, Jr. of Pierre is charged with a single county of Second Degree Murder.

Shangreaux is charged in the death of 17 year-old Evie Maxey of Rapid City.  According to a probable cause affidavit, Shangreaux told police his wife was the reason for the disturbance call.  When asked to speak with his wife Shangreaux reappeared alone and with what officers believed was blood on his hands.

Upon performing a welfare check on Shangreaux’s wife officers found Maxey, unresponsive and bloody in a bathroom.  A witness told police Shangreaux was intoxicated and acting aggressively toward Maxey.

During a police interview Shangreaux admitted to stabbing Maxey multiple times in the bathroom.  Police recovered what appeared to be a bloody knife from the bathroom.

Shangreaux is due in Court Thursday afternoon and is currently being held at the Hughes County Jail.
