De SMET, S.D.(Press Release) – A De Smet, S.D., man has been identified as the person who died early Saturday morning in a one-vehicle crash west of De Smet.
Preliminary crash information indicates that a 2004 Ford F250 pickup was westbound on U.S. Highway 14 when the driver lost control due to icy road conditions. The vehicle went across the roadway into the north ditch and rolled.
Michael Harger, the 58-year-old driver, was not wearing a seat belt. He was thrown from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is only preliminary.
