PIERRE, S.D. (Press Release) – A 25-year-old man has died of injuries sustained in a July 18, 2019 two-vehicle crash west of Howard.
A 1999 Kawaski Vulcan motorcycle was westbound on SD Highway 34 near the intersection of SD Highway 25. It was struck by a 2007 Toyota Camry that had turned left onto SD Highway 34.
Keegan Werkmeister of Canova was driving the motorcycle and was not wearing a helmet. He suffered life-threatening injuries. He was airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital where he died on Friday, Aug. 2.
Both occupants of the Toyota Camry were wearing seatbelts and were not injured. Charges are pending against the driver, 16-year-old Joy McBride of Issaquah, WI.
South Dakota’s Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
The Highway Patrol is part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
