National Farmers Union to do Fly-In at Washington on September 8th-10th

WASHINGTON, D.C.(Press Release)- Farmers Union members from across the country will gather in Washington, DC for the NFU’s 2025 Fall Legislative Fly-In from September 8-10, 2025.

Fly-in attendees will:

  • Hear from U.S. Department of Agriculture officials about current events, opportunities, and other initiatives the department is undertaking.
  • Meet with administration officials from across the federal government and with congressional leaders about important issues impacting their farm operations and communities.
  • Visit with their members of Congress to highlight Farmers Union’s policy priorities and to discuss the challenges and issues they are facing back home.
  • Gather with fellow family farmers and ranchers from across the country to learn from each other and advocate together.

South Dakota Farmers Union President Doug Sombke said:

“Passage of a Farm Bill will top the list of policy asks during the upcoming Fly-In.

“With extreme turmoil over getting the Farm Bill passed and a split coalition, we need to have our voice heard about the serious impact the Farm Bill has on rural America. “Our members consider passing the Farm Bill critical because this bill impacts so many South Dakotans – farmers, ranchers, schools and food insecure families.”

National Farmers Union Vice President Jeff Kippley said

“It’s a big deal to have a lot of farmers and ranchers in D.C. at one time.   “When farmers and ranchers actually travel to D.C. and sit down with leaders to talk about the issues they face and share their stories to explain why they need certain policy changes, it has a powerful impact.”
