PIERRE, S.D. (KCCR) – National Weather Service offices in South Dakota are canceling annual Severe Weather Awareness trainings because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Warning Coordination Meteorologist Kell Serr at the National Weather Service office in Aberdeen says the order to cancel is directive from their parent agency, NOAA.
Serr is hopeful the cancellations won’t have an impact on spotter activations during the upcoming severe weather season.
She says it’s too early to know if spotters will be needed very often or not.
The Aberdeen office of the Weather Service has cancelled all spotter classes in their County Warning Area through April 16.
