RAPID CITY, S.D.(KOTA)- Citing the most recent Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report issued this week, advocates with NDN Collective have called for another look at native stewardship of lands.
Ben (Ya-Walk-ee)Yawakie, climate justice organizer for the group said the IPCC findings are all the more reason for serious action to be taken now.
Yawakie said the “half measures” seen so far ultimately lead nowhere.
Yawakie says “native stewardship” means finding balance with the environment again.
The IPCC report found the rate of warming of the planet is faster than previously thought by scientific leaders, with temperatures on pace for a 1.5 percent average increase from pre-industrial levels.
