BROOKINGS, S.D. (WNAX) – The Ag Appropriations bill that was passed by Congress and signed last month will provide full funding to American Indian students seeking higher education.
“New Beginning for Tribal Students” authorizes the USDA to match state funding at land grant universities up to five hundred thousand dollars a year.
South Dakota State University President Barry Dunn says it has been a long term goal.
Dunn says the aid could come in several forms.
Dunn says the federal program will fit with their on campus Wokini Initiative.
Dunn gave credit to the states Congressional delegation for backing the “New Beginning” program.
