New COVID cases drop, active cases rise, one new death

PIERRE, S.D. (HubCityRadio.com) – The state saw a drop in the number of new COVID cases today, but active infections still rose because of fewer recoveries according to the South Dakota Department of Health. The state also had one new death, bringing the total number of COVID-related deaths to 237. South Dakota had 386 new cases and 220 recoveries pushing the number of active cases to 3,987 (there were 3,507 one week ago).

So far, South Dakota has had 23,522 total cases and 19,298 recoveries. There are currently 220 people hospitalized in association with the virus.

Locally, Brown County had 17 new cases and 19 new recoveries, dropping the number of active infections to 198. So far, the county has had 1,292 confirmed cases, 1,090 recoveries and four total deaths.

Statewide, Minnehaha County has had 7,011 confirmed cases, followed by Pennington County with 2,516, and Lincoln County with 1,502. Other counties totals include Codington with 954, Beadle with 831, Brookings with 822, Clay with 597, and Meade with 576.
