New ice arena receives final approval from Watertown City Council

WATERTOWN, S.D.(KXLG)- The City Council has approved the bid package for the new ice arena.

Public Works Director Heath VonEye gives some background and funding information on the project.

City Manager Amanda Mack talks about the City’s financial involvement.

Councilman Tupper commented, “Someday the City will look back and say Thank God we finally got it done, and boy, what a facility.”

Councilman Vilhauer also comments, “it’s just thrilling to see up to this point.” He also inquired if all the numbers were correct. He also comments on the fantastic fundraising effort.

Justin Johnson with RJM Construction spoke on the construction timeframe.

Mayor Holien finalized the speeches before the final vote with an emotional comment.

Holien ends his comments by saying, “I think the community of Watertown deserves the thanks, and hopefully, they will be reaping the benefits for generations to come.”

The City Council voted unanimously to move forward with the ice arena project.
