New laws involving families goes into effect Saturday

PIERRE, S.D.(DRGNews)- Three laws affecting families in South Dakota will go into effect July 1, 2023.

One bill (SB 75) provides for all pregnancy expenses to be covered by both parents. Another, provides state employees up to $25,000 to cover domestic adoption costs. The third is an updated state employee benefit expanding Paid Family Leave opportunities for state employees.

Governor Kristi Noem says these laws are making it easier for South Dakotans to start and build their families, regardless of their circumstances. She says her message is “whatever your family looks like, make sure it is a strong family.”
