BARNARD, S.D. (By Elisa Sand esand@aberdeennews.com) – A family in Barnard is unable to stay in its home after a fire Sunday night.
Volunteer firefighters from Frederick, Columbia and Aberdeen Rural were called to the home at 301 Main St. at 11:17 p.m.
Frederick Fire Chief Kevin Barton said the house has heavy fire and water damage, and part of the roof collapsed, but no one was injured.
A mother and her two children were inside, but they were notified of the fire by a neighbor, Barton said. He did not have the name of the family living in the home.
It appears the fire started on the side of the house where the air conditioner is, Barton said.
Firefighters were on scene for about three hours, he said.
