Noem expects state will make request for federal disaster declaration

MADISON, S.D. (WNAX) – Homes and businesses in and around Madison were the latest to feel the impact of heavy rains and widespread flooding. Up to 11 inches of rain fell across the area over two days.

Governor Kristi Noem was there to look over the damage and offer state help.

Noem says they help local officials get priority service going, again.

Noem says she expects the state will make a request for a federal disaster declaration, which opens up more resources.

Following the heavy rain, most of the rivers in south east South Dakota were anticipated to hit major to record flood levels.
