Noem says CARES act money for education totals $68 million

PIERRE, S.D. (KBHB) — Governor Kristi Noem held her first COVID-19 update of the week on Tuesday.

She says so far, it doesn’t look like the state will need a June special session to work on the state budget.

Noem says she also signed an executive order extending the state-of-emergency, in order to continue to qualify for federal aid dollars.

Governor Noem says that the CARES act money coming in for education purposes totals $68-million, to be divided up by colleges, high schools, grade schools and tribal schools.

Noem says schools will be provided with aid money that recognizes the extra costs they face to remain operational.
