ABERDEEN, S.D.(Press Release) – The Aberdeen University-Civic Symphony (AUCS) invites you to a concert celebrating the musicals of Rodgers and Hammerstein at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 24 at Northern State University. Christopher Stanichar, assistant professor of music/director of the AUCS, will lead the orchestra.

The concert, which will be held in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Harvey and Cynthia Jewett Theater, features music faculty soloists Darci Bultema, soprano; Marla Fogderud, soprano; and Michael Skyles, tenor/baritone. A pre-concert conversation is scheduled from 6:45 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. in JFAC Berggren Recital Hall.

The celebrated team of composer Richard Rodgers and lyricist Oscar Hammerstein produced memorable productions considered the peak of the classic 20th-century American musical.  Five of their Broadway shows in particular, including Oklahoma!, Carousel, South Pacific, The King and I, and The Sound of Music, were outstanding successes and will be featured on the program.

Additionally, the concert will include a performance by the Aberdeen Central High School Orchestra.

Currently in its 104th season, the Aberdeen University-Civic Symphony is the oldest continuous orchestra in South Dakota, attracting musicians from Minnesota, North Dakota, Iowa, and the surrounding area. Stanichar is the 17th conductor of the orchestra.

All tickets to the Aberdeen University-Civic Symphony are general admission and will be available at the door. Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for senior citizens and NSU faculty/staff. Students will be admitted for free. Payment will be cash or check only; debit or credit cards will not be accepted. There will be no advance or online ticket sales.
