Northwestern Energy provided an update on their new building proposal

ABERDEEN, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- On Wednesday night, Northwestern Energy provided an update on their proposed new location just west of the Demkota Beef plant.

Scott Leigh with ION(a subsidiary of Northwestern Energy) described what the location will be used for.

Leigh talked about how they chose this location.

Leigh described the major benefit is being close to an existing location.

Leigh talked about how this location will use very little water use.

Josh Follman, Northwestern Energy Director of Energy Development,  discussed one concern and that was the issue of noise.

Project has been in the works since 2024.  Follman talked about how much more power is needed in Aberdeen in the future.

Follman explained how temperature determines how much energy is needed.

Follman informed the audience they are still gathering more information and provided an update on when construction might begin.

The new plant must be up and operational by September of 2030.
