NSAA Football Players-of-the-Week

MADISON, SD (PlayNorthStar.com) – The second edition of the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Football Players-of-the-Week honors was announced by the conference office Monday. Jaret Lee of Dickinson State (ND) was selected to the Offensive Player-of-the-Week. Noah Guse of Dakota State (SD) was chosen as the Defensive Player-of-the-Week, while his teammate Caleb Nielsen was named as the Special Teams Player-of-the-Week.

NSAA Football Offensive Player of the Week

Jaret Lee – Dickinson State (ND) – 6′ – 180 lbs., Senior – wide receiver – Dickinson, ND – Lee caught six passes for a total of 154 yards with two touchdowns in Dickinson State’s 51-26 victory over Mayville State (ND). He caught a 58-yard touchdown in the first half, the longest catch of the game. Lee added a 31-yard touchdown catch in the third quarter to spark the Blue Hawks’ 21-0 scoring run to end the game.

NSAA Football Defensive Player of the Week

Noah Guse – Dakota State (SD) – 6′ – 185 lbs., Junior – defensive back – Madison, SD – Guse caught two ‘pick six’ interception returns for touchdowns, fueling Dakota State to a 42-0 road shut-out in Aberdeen over Presentation College. His first ‘pick six’ came late in the first quarter, where he returned it 31 yards for a touchdown to give the Trojans a 7-0 lead. His second ‘pick six’ came within ten seconds of the second quarter opening – a 33-yard return to extend DaSU’s lead to 21-0. Guse propelled the Trojans’ defense by limiting the Saints to 137 total yards of offense.

NSAA Football Special Teams Player of the Week

Caleb Nielsen – Dakota State (SD) – 6′ – 180 lbs., Junior – kicker/punter – Waverly, NE – Nielsen converted all six extra-point kicks in helping Dakota State to a 42-0 shutout victory over Presentation. He also recorded nine punts in the game for a total of 402 yards. He averaged 44.7 yards per punt, with three punts inside the 20-yard line. He had a long punt of 57 yards in third quarter, which resulted in PC starting their drive on their 3-yard line where the Trojans blocked the Saints’ punt on the ensuing possession and the Trojans scored a touchdown on the very next play from PC’s 1-yard line. Nielsen also had five kick-offs for 261 total yards (52.2 yards average per kick-off). He had a long kick-off of 65 yards.

 

Guse & Nielsen were also named the NAIA National Players-of-the-Week.
