NSU Competes In Mitchell @ DWU Open [WR]

Mitchell, SD (NSUWolves.com) – The (RV) Northern State University wrestling team continued their preseason action on Saturday at the DWU Open. The Wolves tallied six top-5 finishes from the meet and scored 144 team points. True freshman Sloan Johannsen was the top finishers for the Wolves taking second at 125-pounds.
WOLVES SECOND PLACE FINISHERS
  • Johannsen was the loan runner-up on the day, going 4-1 overall with wins over Dylan McDonald of Minot State (Fall 2:37), Austin Berry of UMary (dec 8-3), Brandon Board of Augustana (dec 6-1), and Clayson Mele of MSU Moorhead (dec 7-0)
WOLVES THIRD PLACE FINISHERS
  • Mason Fey tallied a third place finish at 174-pounds, scoring 16.5 points with wins over Logan Berger of Chadron State (dec 8-6, NC), Isaiah Rodriguez (fall 1:25), Sam Rock of MWCT (fall 2:17), and Owen Wasley of Augustana (dec 7-5)
  • Damen Pape scored 15.5 points and took third at 184-pounds with wins over Jonah Anderson of Southwest Minnesota (TF 19-3), Gavin Gulbranson of Augustana (dec 10-4), Garret Moser of Concordia (TF 20-5), Wayne Mellon of MSU Moorhead (dec 8-1), and Adam Sylvester of Southwest Minnesota (dec 10-3)
  • Nathan Schauer recorded the final third place finish at 285-pounds with 16.5 team points and wins over Jackson Esping of Southwest Minnesota (fall 2:31), Isaiah Wright of MSU Moorhead (dec 7-0), Regan Bollweg of South Dakota State (MFFL), and Tucker Hugg of Ridgewater (dec 12-7)

  • Izaak Hunsley tallied a fifth place finish in the 165-pound bracket with a 4-2 record and 12.5 points; he recorded wins over Simon Arredondo of Concordia (TF 19-1), James Morgan of Ridgewater (fall 1:30), Tayten Gillete of Chadron State (dec 7-6, NC)
  • Tyson Lien scored 12.5 team points and took fifth in the 197-pound bracket with victories over Teegan Tschample of Concordia (TF 17-0), Mishael Mauck of Sioux Falls (fall 2:02), and Jaret Peterson of Augustana (dec 5-1 NC)
