NSU Falls In Bismarck in NSIC Twinbill

Bismarck, ND (NSUWolves.com) – The Northern State University baseball team dropped both games against the University of Mary in mid-week action, 7-5 and 8-3. An early lead by the Marauders in both games kept the win out of reach for the Wolves. NSU tallied eight runs off of 17 hits along with six extra base hits on the day.

HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 1

  • The University of Mary was the first to add to the board with three runs off of a homerun in the bottom of the first
  • Northern State chipped away from the deficit as Karson Hesser drove one over the right field fence for a solo homerun in the third inning
  • After two scoreless innings the Marauders extended their lead by one run
  • In the top of the sixth, Nick Friedges singled to right field that scored Jonah Schmidt and Jack Weidner to trail by one run
  • UMary responded back with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning
  • On an error by the first baseman, Hesser reach first while Brennan Phillips scored to start the seventh inning
  • Friedges grounded out to the second baseman as Hesser scored to trail by two in the seventh
  • The Wolves tallied five runs off of nine hits and one error on the day
  • Max Otto recorded the loss in 5.2 innings pitched with nine strikeouts against 28 batters

  • After a scoreless second inning, Northern State responded back as Brennan Phillips doubled to right center that to Jackson Meyers
  • Jonah Schmidt cut the lead in half as he drove the ball to left field to score Phillips in the top of the third
  • UMary added one run in the bottom of the third with a solo homerun
  • In the fourth and fifth inning the Marauders extended their lead with two runs
  • The Wolves chipped away from the deficit as Meyers singled to center field to score Nicholas Ochoa to trail by four runs
  • In the bottom of the eight, The University of Mary scored one run to lead by five
  • NSU tallied three runs off of eight hits with one error and two stolen bases in the contest
  • In 2.2 innings pitched, Jack Miller recorded the loss with two strikeouts against 18 batters
