BURNSVILLE, MN (NSUWolves.com) – The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference released this afternoon the 2019 Outdoor Track and Field Preseason Coaches’ Poll. The men’s and women’s teams were both picked eight overall. Wolves sophomore Tanner Berg was honored as the Preseason Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year, and was one of four Wolves to watch for the 2019 season.
Northern State enters the 2019 outdoor season after finishing sixth in the league a season ago. The Wolves racked up two conference championships and six all-conference performances. Monte Meyerink won NSIC titles in the high jump and javelin in his final meet as a Wolf. David Murphy also grabbed all-conference accolades in the javelin, while returners Kelson Brewer and Tanner Berg earned all-conference honors in the 400m hurdles, shot put, and hammer throw. Brewer and Berg were tabbed as the team’s track and field athletes to watch for the 2019 outdoor season. The Wolves enter the outdoor season after taking seventh as a team from the NSIC Indoor Championships. In addition, Tanner Berg was the lone NCAA Indoor National Championship qualifier for the Wolves, earning second team All-American honors in the weight throw.

The Northern State University women’s track and field team enters the 2019 outdoor season after a ninth place finish in 2018 from the NSIC Championships. Sasha Hovind and Sonia Alaman tallied all-conference performances in the 5000m run and high jump, while Hovind won the NSIC Championships in the 10,000m run. Hovind qualified for the NCAA National Championships, alongside Hanneke Oosterwegel. The pair grabbed All-American accolades in the 5000m, 10,000m, and 400m hurdles from the championships. Oosterwegel and Alaman were picked as Northern’s track and field athletes to watch for the upcoming season.
