ABERDEEN, S.D.(Press Release) –  Northern State University will mark the 237th anniversary of the U.S. Constitution on Sept. 17, 2024.

“September 17 is Constitution Day, and Northern State University will commemorate the signing of the U.S. Constitution, which occurred on September 17, 1787. All are invited to enjoy tables on the main floor of the Student Center from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., hosted by various groups. Flags will be flown around Aberdeen that day courtesy of the Exchange Club,” said Dr. Ric Dias, professor of history and faculty mentoring program coordinator.

The day will feature activities such as military recruiting, voter registration, and distribution of free copies of the Bill of Rights at the Student Center. The NSU Wolves Den will offer special food options, enhancing the celebration.

Exchange Club will display hundreds of flags throughout Aberdeen. Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to participate in the day’s patriotic spirit by wearing themed clothing and decorating workspaces.

These events are part of Northern State University’s initiative through the new Center for Public History and Civic Engagement to promote public interaction with history and enhance civic knowledge.

All events are free and open to the public, highlighting the Constitution’s lasting impact.
