NSU to host 68th annual Math Contest April 19th

ABERDEEN, S.D.(Press Release) – Northern State University will host the 68th Annual Mathematics Contest on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at the Barnett Center on the NSU campus.

High school students from around the area are invited to participate in one of four divisions: Elementary Algebra, Geometry, Advanced Algebra and Senior Math.

Dr. Stacy Trentham, NSU Assistant Professor of Mathematics and Contest Director, estimates roughly 500 contestants from 25 area schools will participate in the event. Assisting with the event are NSU Mathematics faculty Ms. Melanie Jacobson, Dr. Ricardo Rojas and Dr. Travis Trentham.

The contest awards ceremony is scheduled for 1 p.m. April 19 in the Barnett Center. While the contest is closed to the public, members of the community are invited to attend the awards ceremony.

Trophies will be awarded to the top five finishers in each division and a plaque will be presented to the coach of each first-place winner. The school in each class having the highest percentage combined score across all four divisions will be awarded a travelling trophy.
