MITCHELL, S.D.(KMIT)- A decade ago, no state had an adult obesity rate of more than 35 percent. The 20th annual Trust For America’s Health report shows that 22 states are now above that mark. Madison West says adult obesity rates have increased by 37 percent, while adolescent obesity rates have climbed by 42 percent. She says diet and exercise are not the only factors looked at in the study.
She says there are many health risks associated with obesity.
West talks about the steps that can be taken to combat obesity.
The study showed that South Dakota’s adult obesity rate is right around 35 percent.
