Officials talk about priorities heading into upcoming session

PIERRE, S.D. (DRG News) – Among the proposals outlined in South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem’s proposed 2022 State Budget are projects that would be paid for using nearly $200 million in one-time money.

District 24 representative-elect Will Mortenson is heading into his first session as a legislator. He wants to see the dollars used on items that will have a lasting impact.

Representative-elect Mike Weisgram is also heading into his first session as a legislator. He says anytime you can strengthen your balance sheet, is a plus.

One of Gov. Noem’s three priorities for the FY2022 budget is restoring and reinvigorating infrastructure. District 24 senator-elect Mary Duvall, who previously served in the House, will chair the Senate Transportation Committee. She hopes some of the one-time dollars are used to upgrade some of the state’s aging roads and bridges.
