Older trees also needs assistance in drought conditions

PIERRE, S.D.(DRGNews)- Because of the drought, many people are diligently watering lawns, gardens and  young trees to keep things green and growing.

But, Art Smith with East Pierre Landscape and Garden Center says established trees need to be watered too– and what comes out of your lawn sprinklers doesn’t count.

How much to water your grown trees is where Smith says it gets a little complicated.

Smith says fertilizing trees right now may do more harm than good.

Smith says a two inch– or more– layer of mulch underneath trees and shrubs is always a good idea because it helps prevent water loss through evaporation.
