One dead after Sunday morning crash in Aberdeen

ABERDEEN, S.D.(Aberdeen American News)- An early morning fatal crash remains under investigation.

The Aberdeen Police Department and Aberdeen Fire & Rescue were called to the 3 a.m. crash in the 1600 block of Milwaukee Avenue Northeast on Sunday.

Aberdeen Police Officer Ty Reinke confirmed a single-vehicle fatal crash happened Sunday morning, but said the crash remains under investigation and more details will be available Monday.

Police Capt. Jay Tobin said the SUV ultimately crashed into a tree and caught on fire on the Bethlehem Lutheran Church grounds. It did not damage the building, he said, but noted the driver also struck a cable box on the property.

Tobin said officers are currently working to identify the driver of the SUV. No license plates could be found on the vehicle.

Aberdeen Fire & Rescue Battalion Chief JR Huebner also confirmed there was a car fire but deferred to the police department for additional details.
