One killed, another injured in three-vehicle crash in Hermosa

HERMOSA, S.D. (Press Release) – One person died and another was injured in a three-vehicle crash Friday morning in Hermosa.

Names of the three people involved are not yet being released pending notification of family members.

A 1997 Toyota 4Runner was eastbound on South Dakota Highway 36 and stopped at the stop sign located at the intersection of South Dakota Highway 79. The vehicle entered the intersection and turned to go north on Highway 79 where it collided with a southbound 2009 Toyota Rav4 XLE, which rolled. A southbound 1999 GMC Sierra 1500 pickup then struck both of the two other vehicles.

The 67-year-old male driver of the 1997 Toyota 4Runner was airlifted to a Rapid City hospital where he later died as a result of his injuries. The 56-year-old female driver of the 2009 Toyota Rav4 XLE suffered serious non-life threatening injuries and was taken by ambulance to a Rapid City hospital. The pickup driver, a 20-year-old male, was not injured.

All three drivers were wearing seat belts.

South Dakota Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash. All information is only preliminary at this time.
