One killed, another seriously injured in crash east of Piedmont

PIEDMONT, S.D. (Press Release) – One person died and another person was seriously injured in a one-vehicle crash Tuesday night east of Piedmont.

Names of the two men involved are not yet being released.

A 1997 GMC pickup was northbound on Galaxy Road near the intersection of 218th Street when the driver lost control on the snow and ice-covered road. The vehicle left the roadway and eventually rolled.

The 40-year-old passenger, who was wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene. The 36-year-old driver received life-threatening injuries and was taken to a Rapid City hospital. It is unknown at this time whether the driver was wearing a seat belt.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash. All information is only preliminary at this point.
