One killed, another seriously injured in crash west of Gettysburg

GETTYSURG, S.D. (Press Release) – One person died and another person was seriously injured late Thursday night in a two-vehicle crash west of Gettysburg.

Names of the three persons involved are not being released pending notification of family members.

A 2003 Chevrolet Monte Carlo was westbound on U.S. Highway 212 when the driver lost control as the vehicle entered a right-turning curve. The vehicle cross the centerline and collided with an eastbound 2013 Ford F350 pickup.

The 35-year-old male passenger in the Monte Carlo was pronounced dead at the scene. The 24-year-old female driver sustained life-threatening injuries. She was transported via ambulance to the Gettysburg hospital and airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital. Neither occupant was wearing a seat belt.

Uninjured was the 19-year-old male driver of the pickup. He was wearing a seat belt.

Charges are pending against both drivers.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash. All information is only preliminary at this point.
