One killed in crash east of Madison

MADISON, S.D. (Press Release) – One man died Saturday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash that occurred east of Madison.

Names of those involved are not yet being released pending notification of family members.

A 2011 Honda Accord was eastbound on South Dakota Highway 34 when it rear-ended a 2002 Peterbilt semi-truck and trailer which had just turned eastbound onto Highway 34.

Both occupants of the Honda Accord were taken to the Madison hospital. The 18-year-old male passenger, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was later pronounced dead. The 19-year-old male driver suffered serious non-life threatening injuries. Whether he was wearing a seatbelt is under investigation.

The two occupants of the semi-truck, the male driver and female passenger, were wearing seatbelts and were not injured. Both are 59 years old.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
